Warranty and Service Assistance Policy
WARRANTY & SERVICE POLICY
Effective upon posting
NC Discount Furniture is committed to helping customers obtain appropriate warranty and service assistance when a product experiences a covered manufacturing issue.
Many products sold by NC Discount Furniture include a written warranty provided by the product's manufacturer. Warranty coverage, duration, exclusions, remedies, and claim procedures vary by manufacturer and product.
Unless NC Discount Furniture expressly provides a separate written warranty for a specific product, any written product warranty identified as a manufacturer warranty is provided by the applicable manufacturer and is subject to that manufacturer's terms and conditions.
This Warranty & Service Policy explains how NC Discount Furniture assists customers with warranty and service matters.
1. MANUFACTURER WARRANTIES
Many furniture manufacturers provide warranties covering certain defects in materials or workmanship.
Warranty terms may vary based on:
-
Manufacturer
-
Product
-
Product category
-
Component
-
Material
-
Intended use
-
Date of purchase or delivery
-
Other manufacturer requirements
For example, one manufacturer may provide different warranty periods for:
-
Frames
-
Springs
-
Cushion cores
-
Upholstery
-
Reclining mechanisms
-
Electrical components
-
Wood furniture
-
Hardware
-
Outdoor furniture
Customers should review the specific manufacturer's warranty applicable to the merchandise they purchase.
2. WHEN WARRANTY COVERAGE BEGINS
Unless the applicable manufacturer's warranty provides otherwise, warranty coverage generally begins on the date the merchandise is delivered to the customer.
The manufacturer's written warranty controls the actual warranty period and coverage.
3. WARRANTY INFORMATION BEFORE PURCHASE
When a manufacturer provides a written warranty applicable to a product, NC Discount Furniture will make available applicable warranty information as required by law.
Warranty information may be provided:
-
On the product page;
-
Through a link to the manufacturer's warranty;
-
In downloadable manufacturer documentation;
-
Upon request before purchase; or
-
Through another appropriate method.
Customers who have questions about warranty coverage before ordering are encouraged to contact NC Discount Furniture.
4. NC DISCOUNT FURNITURE'S ROLE
NC Discount Furniture will make reasonable efforts to assist customers with legitimate manufacturer warranty claims for products purchased through NC Discount Furniture.
Depending on the manufacturer and circumstances, we may:
-
Obtain warranty information;
-
Help identify the applicable manufacturer;
-
Submit photographs or documentation;
-
Communicate with the manufacturer;
-
Request replacement parts;
-
Coordinate authorized repair service;
-
Coordinate product inspection;
-
Obtain claim-status information;
-
Assist with an approved replacement;
-
Help communicate the manufacturer's claim determination.
The manufacturer's written warranty determines the manufacturer's warranty obligations.
When the manufacturer is responsible for administering its written warranty, the manufacturer may make the final determination regarding whether a particular condition is covered and what remedy is available under that warranty.
Nothing in this section limits any separate legal right or remedy a customer may have against NC Discount Furniture that cannot lawfully be waived.
5. HOW TO REQUEST WARRANTY SERVICE
To request assistance with a warranty claim, contact NC Discount Furniture and provide:
-
Customer name
-
NC Discount Furniture order number
-
Email address
-
Telephone number
-
Product name
-
Manufacturer
-
SKU or model number
-
Date of delivery
-
Description of the problem
-
Date the problem was first discovered
Customers may also be required to provide:
-
Photograph of the entire product
-
Close-up photographs of the affected area
-
Video demonstrating the problem
-
Photograph of the manufacturer's product label
-
Serial number
-
Model number
-
Proof of purchase
-
Measurements
-
Additional information reasonably required by the manufacturer
Submitting a warranty claim does not automatically mean that the claim is covered or approved.
6. PROOF OF PURCHASE
Warranty service generally requires proof that the merchandise was purchased from NC Discount Furniture.
Your NC Discount Furniture order confirmation or invoice ordinarily serves as proof of purchase.
Customers should retain their order information and any manufacturer warranty documentation received with the merchandise.
7. MANUFACTURING DEFECTS
Manufacturer warranties commonly apply to specified defects in materials or workmanship.
Possible examples may include:
-
Structural manufacturing failures
-
Defective mechanisms
-
Defective factory-installed hardware
-
Certain manufacturing-related upholstery failures
-
Defective electrical components
-
Improperly manufactured components
-
Other conditions covered by the manufacturer's written warranty
Whether a specific condition is a covered defect depends on the applicable manufacturer warranty.
8. WARRANTY REMEDIES
If a manufacturer determines that an issue is covered by its warranty, the available remedy may include:
Replacement Parts
The manufacturer may provide replacement:
-
Hardware
-
Legs
-
Cushions
-
Mechanisms
-
Motors
-
Power supplies
-
Handles
-
Doors
-
Drawers
-
Shelves
-
Other components
Repair
The manufacturer may authorize or provide funds toward professional furniture repair.
Technician Service
An authorized technician may inspect, diagnose, adjust, or repair the merchandise.
Replacement Component
A particular section or component may be replaced without replacing the entire item.
Product Replacement
The manufacturer may authorize replacement merchandise when repair or component replacement is not appropriate.
Other Manufacturer Remedy
The manufacturer may provide another remedy permitted under its written warranty.
Warranty coverage does not automatically entitle a customer to choose a refund instead of an available covered repair, part, service, or replacement remedy.
9. REPAIR BEFORE REPLACEMENT
When permitted by the applicable warranty and law, a manufacturer or NC Discount Furniture may determine that repair is the appropriate first remedy.
Professional furniture repair is commonly used for repairable furniture issues.
A product is not automatically considered unrepairable simply because a repair is required.
Customers must provide a reasonable opportunity for an authorized technician, manufacturer representative, or service provider to evaluate and perform an approved repair when repair is the applicable remedy.
10. PARTS BEFORE FULL PRODUCT REPLACEMENT
When a problem affects an individual replaceable component, the manufacturer may provide that component rather than replace the entire furniture item.
Examples include:
-
One damaged cushion
-
One mechanism
-
One motor
-
One drawer
-
One door
-
One leg
-
One power supply
-
One piece of hardware
A covered defect affecting one component does not necessarily require replacement of the complete product.
11. REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS
If replacement merchandise is authorized:
-
Replacement is subject to manufacturer availability;
-
The replacement may require additional production or shipping time;
-
The original merchandise may need to be returned or made available for pickup;
-
Certain components may need to be returned;
-
The manufacturer may determine whether replacement applies to the complete product or only the affected component.
Do not discard merchandise that is subject to a warranty claim unless NC Discount Furniture or the manufacturer provides authorization.
12. WARRANTY REPLACEMENT SHIPPING & SERVICE COSTS
Responsibility for:
-
Replacement-part shipping
-
Freight
-
Technician charges
-
Labor
-
Pickup
-
Redelivery
-
Installation
-
Other service costs
depends on the applicable manufacturer's warranty and applicable law.
Some manufacturer warranties cover parts but not transportation or labor after a particular period.
If a manufacturer-approved warranty remedy results in costs that are properly the customer's responsibility under the applicable warranty, NC Discount Furniture will communicate those costs before proceeding whenever reasonably practicable.
Nothing in this section permits NC Discount Furniture to charge a customer for a cost that applicable law requires NC Discount Furniture or another responsible party to bear.
13. SHIPPING DAMAGE IS NOT A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY CLAIM
Damage caused during transportation or delivery is generally handled separately from a manufacturing warranty claim.
Examples include:
-
Freight damage
-
Crushed furniture
-
Shipping scratches
-
Broken components caused by transportation
-
Damage caused by a delivery provider
Such issues are governed primarily by the NC Discount Furniture Damaged & Defective Merchandise Policy.
Customers should report delivery damage promptly because transportation claims may have substantially shorter reporting periods than manufacturer warranty claims.
14. NORMAL WEAR & TEAR
Manufacturer warranties generally do not cover normal wear and tear.
Examples may include:
-
Gradual cushion softening
-
Normal fabric wear
-
Expected wrinkling
-
Normal leather creasing
-
Minor finish wear from use
-
Gradual fading
-
Minor scratches occurring during normal use
-
Normal aging of materials
The applicable manufacturer warranty determines whether a particular condition is covered.
15. NATURAL MATERIAL VARIATIONS
Natural characteristics are generally not manufacturing defects.
These may include variations in:
-
Wood grain
-
Wood coloration
-
Knots
-
Mineral streaks
-
Stone veining
-
Marble
-
Leather grain
-
Leather markings
-
Fabric texture
-
Fabric pattern placement
-
Dye lots
-
Hand-applied finishes
-
Distressing
-
Antiquing
-
Glazing
-
Metal patina
Natural materials may change in appearance as they age.
Reasonable natural characteristics or variations do not ordinarily constitute warranty defects.
16. UPHOLSTERY CHARACTERISTICS
Certain changes are normal with upholstered furniture and are not necessarily defects.
Examples may include:
-
Cushion compression
-
Cushion softening
-
Minor wrinkling
-
Fabric relaxation
-
Minor puckering
-
Feather migration
-
Normal leather stretching
-
Normal leather creasing
-
Variation in cushion firmness
-
Pattern-placement differences
The applicable manufacturer's specifications and warranty determine whether a particular condition exceeds normal characteristics and qualifies as a covered defect.
17. COLOR & FINISH VARIATIONS
Differences in color or appearance caused by:
-
Photography
-
Lighting
-
Computer displays
-
Mobile-device screens
-
Dye lots
-
Wood grain
-
Natural materials
-
Stain absorption
-
Hand-applied finishes
-
Manufacturing batches
are not necessarily defects.
Reasonable variations in color, grain, texture, sheen, or finish generally are not covered as manufacturing defects.
18. MISUSE, ABUSE & CUSTOMER-CAUSED DAMAGE
Manufacturer warranties generally do not cover damage caused by:
-
Misuse
-
Abuse
-
Neglect
-
Accidents
-
Improper assembly
-
Improper installation
-
Failure to follow instructions
-
Unauthorized modifications
-
Unauthorized repairs
-
Moving or relocating furniture
-
Pets
-
Spills
-
Stains
-
Cleaning chemicals
-
Improper cleaning
-
Excessive moisture
-
Excessive dryness
-
Heat
-
Direct sunlight
-
Improper storage
-
Failure to perform required maintenance
-
Other customer-caused conditions
Coverage is determined by the applicable manufacturer warranty.
19. UNAUTHORIZED REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS
Do not substantially repair, alter, refinish, reupholster, modify, disassemble, or otherwise change merchandise that is the subject of a warranty claim without authorization.
Unauthorized work may:
-
Prevent accurate diagnosis;
-
Cause additional damage;
-
Affect available remedies; or
-
Void or limit manufacturer warranty coverage where permitted by applicable law.
If immediate action is required to avoid injury or additional property damage, take reasonable safety precautions and contact NC Discount Furniture promptly.
20. CARE & MAINTENANCE
Customers are responsible for following applicable manufacturer care and maintenance instructions.
This may include requirements concerning:
-
Upholstery cleaning
-
Leather conditioning
-
Wood care
-
Stone care
-
Mattress support
-
Cushion rotation
-
Outdoor furniture storage
-
Humidity
-
Cleaning products
-
Electrical furniture operation
Failure to follow required care instructions may affect manufacturer warranty coverage.
21. RESIDENTIAL VS. COMMERCIAL USE
Some furniture is manufactured and warranted only for normal residential use.
Use in:
-
Offices
-
Restaurants
-
Hotels
-
Rental properties
-
Waiting rooms
-
Commercial facilities
-
Other non-residential environments
may not be covered by a residential manufacturer warranty.
Customers purchasing furniture for commercial use should verify warranty eligibility before purchase.
22. ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE
A standard manufacturer's warranty ordinarily covers manufacturing defects, not accidental damage.
Accidental damage may include:
-
Spills
-
Stains
-
Pet damage
-
Cuts
-
Burns
-
Tears
-
Impact damage
-
Customer-caused scratches
-
Other accidental events
If NC Discount Furniture offers an optional third-party furniture protection plan, accidental-damage claims are governed by that protection plan's separate terms and conditions.
A protection plan is separate from the manufacturer's warranty.
23. THIRD-PARTY PROTECTION PLANS
NC Discount Furniture may offer optional protection plans administered by third-party companies.
When purchased, those plans are separate agreements between the customer and the applicable protection-plan provider.
Coverage, exclusions, claim deadlines, remedies, deductibles, service procedures, and other terms are governed by the protection-plan contract.
NC Discount Furniture may assist customers in locating claim information but does not determine coverage under a third-party protection plan unless expressly stated otherwise.
24. OUT-OF-WARRANTY SERVICE
NC Discount Furniture may, when reasonably possible, assist customers in locating:
-
Replacement parts
-
Manufacturer service
-
Furniture technicians
-
Other service resources
after manufacturer warranty coverage has expired.
Out-of-warranty assistance is not guaranteed.
Customers may be responsible for:
-
Parts
-
Labor
-
Freight
-
Service calls
-
Inspection fees
-
Other costs
associated with out-of-warranty service.
Providing assistance with an out-of-warranty issue does not create or extend a warranty.
25. DISCONTINUED PARTS OR PRODUCTS
Manufacturers occasionally discontinue:
-
Furniture collections
-
Fabrics
-
Finishes
-
Hardware
-
Components
-
Replacement parts
If a covered replacement component is no longer available, the applicable manufacturer will determine the remedy available under its written warranty, subject to applicable law.
A discontinued product does not automatically entitle the customer to select a different product or receive a refund unless the manufacturer's warranty or applicable law provides that remedy.
26. CUSTOMER COOPERATION
Customers requesting warranty assistance are expected to reasonably cooperate with the claim process.
This may include:
-
Providing photographs
-
Providing video
-
Providing serial numbers
-
Providing model numbers
-
Providing product labels
-
Providing measurements
-
Responding to manufacturer questions
-
Allowing inspection
-
Allowing authorized repair
-
Making merchandise available for service
-
Returning defective parts when reasonably required
-
Making merchandise available for authorized pickup
Failure to provide information or access reasonably necessary to evaluate or perform a warranty remedy may delay or prevent completion of the claim.
27. SERVICE APPOINTMENTS
A manufacturer or NC Discount Furniture may arrange for a technician to evaluate or repair merchandise.
Customers are responsible for:
-
Providing accurate contact information;
-
Responding to scheduling requests;
-
Providing reasonable access to the furniture; and
-
Having an adult present when required.
If a customer repeatedly misses or refuses an authorized service appointment, resolution of the warranty claim may be delayed.
Additional service charges resulting from customer-caused missed appointments may be the customer's responsibility where permitted by the applicable warranty and law.
28. WARRANTY CLAIM DETERMINATIONS
A manufacturer's approval or denial of a claim under the manufacturer's written warranty will generally be based on that manufacturer's warranty terms and evaluation.
If the manufacturer requests additional documentation, inspection, photographs, or service evaluation, the claim may remain pending until those requirements are reasonably completed.
NC Discount Furniture will make reasonable efforts to communicate material claim updates that we receive.
29. WARRANTY CLAIMS ARE NOT RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS
A warranty claim is different from a voluntary return or cancellation.
A customer experiencing a covered manufacturing issue must generally provide a reasonable opportunity for an available warranty remedy.
A warranty claim does not automatically entitle a customer to:
-
Cancel the purchase;
-
Return the merchandise;
-
Select different merchandise;
-
Demand a refund.
Requests unrelated to warranty coverage remain subject to the applicable:
-
Return & Refund Policy
-
Cancellation & Order Change Policy
-
Other NC Discount Furniture terms
30. RELATIONSHIP TO OUR DAMAGED & DEFECTIVE MERCHANDISE POLICY
Issues discovered at or shortly after delivery may first be evaluated under the Damaged & Defective Merchandise Policy to determine whether the problem resulted from:
-
Transportation damage;
-
Delivery damage;
-
Manufacturing defect;
-
Missing merchandise;
-
Incorrect merchandise;
-
Another cause.
Once an issue is determined to be a manufacturer warranty matter, it may then be handled under this Warranty & Service Policy and the applicable manufacturer's warranty.
31. NC DISCOUNT FURNITURE DOES NOT EXPAND A MANUFACTURER'S WRITTEN WARRANTY
Unless NC Discount Furniture expressly provides a separate written warranty for a particular product, NC Discount Furniture's assistance with a manufacturer's warranty claim does not expand:
-
The duration of the manufacturer warranty;
-
The items covered;
-
The manufacturer's remedies;
-
The manufacturer's exclusions; or
-
The manufacturer's obligations.
Statements by customer service personnel cannot modify a manufacturer's written warranty unless the modification is expressly authorized in writing by the manufacturer or otherwise creates rights under applicable law.
32. NO EXTENSION FROM REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT UNLESS PROVIDED
A repair, replacement part, replacement component, or replacement item does not automatically restart or extend the original manufacturer warranty period unless the applicable manufacturer's written warranty or applicable law provides otherwise.
33. SAFETY-RELATED CONDITIONS
If you believe furniture presents an immediate safety hazard:
Stop using the merchandise immediately.
Examples may include:
-
Structural instability
-
Electrical hazards
-
Broken load-bearing components
-
Unsafe reclining mechanisms
-
Other conditions presenting a reasonable risk of injury
Keep others away from the merchandise when appropriate and contact NC Discount Furniture promptly.
34. PRODUCT RECALLS
If NC Discount Furniture receives notice of a manufacturer or government safety recall affecting merchandise we sold, we may make reasonable efforts to communicate available recall information to affected customers when customer and product records allow us to do so.
Recall remedies and procedures are governed by the applicable recall program and law.
Customers may also independently monitor manufacturer and government recall information.
35. LEGALLY REQUIRED WARRANTIES & REMEDIES
Nothing in this Warranty & Service Policy is intended to waive, disclaim, restrict, or eliminate any implied warranty, statutory warranty, consumer protection, product-liability right, or other remedy that cannot lawfully be waived or restricted.
Manufacturer warranty terms do not eliminate separate rights that a customer may have under applicable federal or state law.
Where applicable law provides a remedy beyond the manufacturer's written warranty, applicable law controls.
